Baby Bettlereiche

Bettlereiche was the very large and old oak that I visited in Switzerland in May 2019. P1500651 Somehow a few acorns from that tree jumped in my luggage and found their way back to Minnesota.  In late May I planted them in seed starter soil and kept them watered outside.  And surprisingly they have grown.  BabySwissOak2I was surprised because usually you want to collect white oak acorns in the fall and plant them right away.  I hope that I can get them to live over the winter as pedunculate white oak are hardy to zone 5.  We live in a zone 4b area so I will update next year.
